Moore came to Arkansas by wagon train via Tennessee in 1830, on to Louisiana in 1842, getting to Arkansas by 1850 in company with the Wacasters, Westons, Kinseys, McGrews and possibly with the Powells. [They settled in the Mazarn Creek area south of Crystal Springs, AR.] The families were all farmers and timber workers. Some had gristmills. Several of the men served in the Civil War. John L. Moore was a colonel in Company I, 3rd Missouri Cavalry and also a federal marshal. He had to hide from the bushwhackers several times. One time he hid in a hollow log with little food because his wife could not bring it due to bushwhackers being near by. Coming home to check on his family, he heard them coming and hid in some bushes. His horse was quiet, or he would have been captured or shot. Once he was forced to hide in the pig pen. His wife brought him his food in her apron making believe she was feeding th hogs. One time his wife Lucinda had to go to Little Rock to collect John's pay for her to live on. She took a nursing child with her. On the way home bushwhackers stopped her and were going to rob her, but she had prepared ahead of time by hiding the money in the baby' diaper. The bushwhackers did not find it. The bushwhackers came back later and did away with the Moore's horses. Lucinda had to use oxen for plowing. John L. made the first tweezers in Montgomery County in his blacksmith shop. J. L. married Elizabeth Ray first. They had a daughter Sarah A., who married Joe E. Wacaster and they had four children. J. L.'s second wife was Lucinda Wacaster. They had nine children: 1) Mary E. married William A. Powell (see Powell History); 2) Mike P. T. married Mary C. (Ray) [actually Kinsey. Ray was her mother's maiden name. TEKing]. They had eight children; 3) Sanford E. died young; 4) Jim John married Mary J. Mullins first. They had nime children. Sarah Lizenby was his second bride. 5) There is no record of Rebecca M. after 1880. 6) George A. (twin) married Rosa Brumley, they had five children. 7) Henry F. (twin) married Amanda M. Brumley, they had nine children. 8) Pellie B. wed Thomas M. Vandevier and they had six children, her second husband was Elijah Norman, they had a son Cecil. [Perhaps one did not survive infancy. TEKing] Michael Moore operated a gristmill and had a farm on Walnut Fork. Roland had a farm on Walnut Fork. Roland Moore had a farm where Charlton Campground is now. John L. Moore was postmaster of Old Ussery post office in 1890. Henry surved as postmaster of Mazie in 1899. Pellie B. M. Vandevier was postmistress at Peak post office in 1907. - by Dolores E. Moore"

John died on 20 April 1897 at in Arkansas, at age 77.
His body was interred at Peak Cemetery, Garland County, Arkansas, at Peak Cemetery.1
