     George was born circa 1930. He was the son of Edgar Pearl Martin and Dovie Adeline Maxwell. He married Shirley Ann Basinger circa 1962. George died on 18 August 1998 at Little Rock, Arkansas. Newspaper obituary. Paper unknown. - "Dr. George Wayne Martin, age 68, of Little Rock died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998. He was born in Solgohachia, Ark., to the late Edgar Pearl and Dovie Adeline Maxwell Martin. A distinguished and respected United Methodist minister for over 50 years, Dr. Martin faithfully and energetically served his God, his church, his family and his fellow man. He leaves behind a legacy of lives touched by his humor, compassion, music and teaching. He graduated from Wonder View High School, receiving his B.A. in Religion from Hendrix College, Conway, Ark., in 1951. Other education accomplishments include attending Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University where he received his Divinity Degree in 1954, and in 1972 he was honored by being awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Hendrix College. Dr. Martins career as a postor began at the First United Methodist Church, Vilonia, Ark., followed by Axe Memorial Methodist, Garland, Texas; Lakewood Methodist, North Little Rock; First Methodist, Little Rock; Salem-Congo Methodist, Salem, Ark; Trinity Methodist, Little Rock; First Methodist, Malvern; First Methodist, Hot Springs; and St. Paul Methodist, Little Rock. He was honored to have been elected a delegate to the United Methodist Church General and Jurisdictional Conference an unprecented four times in 1986, 1972, 1976, and 1980. He also served as District Superintendent of the Arkadelphia, Jonesboro, and Conway districts. Dr. Martin is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Shirley Ann Basinger Martin of Little Rock; their two daughters, Bari Anne Sells of Little Rock and her husband, Mike, and their two daughters, Emily and Olivia; Lori Leigh Standridge of Conway and her husband, Jeff, and their two daughters, Katie and Anna; one brother, Wendell martin of Garland, Texas; and sister, Hattie Pearl Burns of Morrilton. A visitation will be held this afternoon from 4 to 5 p.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home followed by a funeral service Friday at 2 pm. at Trinity United Methodist Church officiated by Dr. Merie Johnson and Bishop Kenneth Hicks. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arkansas Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to Trinity United Methodist Church of Little Rock.".1
